Hi there! You’ve found the personal website of Nelson Rosen, MD. I’m a pediatric surgeon who specializes in the care of people born with anorectal and urogenital malformations, Hirschsprung’s disease and allied motility disorders. I am hoping to make this website into a useful resource for my patients, and anyone who may benefit from the information I post. I think I need to come up with a better logo. I put a public-domain picture of a cardinal up in the top left, because I think birds are beautiful, and like many of my patients female birds are born with a CLOACA.
How can I help? If you're reading this page and not already one of my patients, I can tell you a bit about the sort of people who are usually looking for someone like me:
- Parents of a child born with an anorectal malformation, a symptomatic Pilonidal, Hirschsprung's disease, a spinal malformation that's led to fecal and/or urinary incontinence, or an intestinal motility disorder. Some parents live in places where the local physicians don't have much experience in the conditions I treat and are looking for someone for surgical care. Others may have children who've completed their surgical care and are looking for long term management. Others may have children already cared for by an experienced capable surgeons, and they want to confirm that they are on the right track.
- Someone old enough to be internet browsing who was born with any of the issues listed above. I wrote 'old enough to be internet browsing' because many children are already avid internet users and are looking for things on their own. I also care for many adult patients born with these conditions.
I see patients in all of the categories mentioned above, and I'm sure others with unique situations. I am always happy to help if you think my expertise may be something you're looking for.
We know going to a surgeon is not going to be the highlight of your day. We'll do our best to make the entire process easy for you. It helps if you have a clear understanding of the issue you would like us to address. We'll help best we can, but you have to make sure we know how you want us to help, and what you, or your child, need help with.
